“Features Tell, Benefits Sell” – A Marketing Guru Would Say, But Do They?

Here’s the main problem with benefits: they sound hyper-pitchy.

But is pitchy bad? Not necessarily. If my only option to make money was to use pitchy messages then hell … no problem.

However, even though the language of benefits works great for many marketers selling products online, it’s still not perfect for everything.

Some products are just too basic, recognizable, and easy-to-grasp, which means that they don’t need much marketing speech. I mean, what benefit would you mention while trying to sell a standard t-shirt? If the t-shirt is nicely designed then it’s the best marketing message in itself, right?

fpm contest badgeOr does it?

Anyway, I’m delighted to say that I’ve made it to the final round of Danny Iny’s marketing competition – “Marketing that Works.”

The competition is all about innovative marketing ideas, and sharing them with others. Every participant had to come up with such an idea, and then turn it into a guest post.

I can’t give you too much details about my post right now, but let me just tell you that it’s about upselling. Not the general idea, of course, but a single specific aspect of it.

Why Lightning Quick Ads are the Future of Internet Advertising

lightningIf you have anything to do with online advertising I’m sure you want to be as much ninja-skilled with it as possible. You want to have an exceptional ability of attracting attention, conveying your offer, grabbing the reader by the throat and forcing them to take action… just like a real ninja would have done it. Well… at least that’s what I want.

But there’s something harsh I need to tell you…

People essentially don’t care

They don’t care about you, your offer, your great marketing message, your brilliant discounts, your magic pills and whatnots. They just want to read their favorite blogs, get in touch with their friends on Facebook, and watch some funny videos featuring silly cats. Getting hit by an advertisement right in the face is not in their agenda.

Did you know that each one of us is exposed to nearly 4,000 marketing messages every day? (Just in case you’ve been wondering why people don’t care.)

Things You Can Learn about Marketing while Sunbathing

sunbathingDo you think you could give away your product for free, and still make good amount of money, or maybe even more? Does it sound like one of the standard internet marketing tips? If your answer is “no”, then I’m sorry but you are dead wrong. This is a lesson about how to position your upsells the right way, which I’ve learned (for free) while sunbathing in one of the tourist resorts in Greece.

In the northern part of one of the Greek islands – Crete, there is a small town – Hersonissos, and in it dozens of hotels and tourist attractions … making a long story short it’s a typical environment in such type of place.

One of more popular places where you can spend your time is a place called “Star Beach”. What you can find there is stuff like: swimming pools, water slides, sunbeds, palm trees, the beach, the sea, water attractions, a gym, good weather, the sun, and a disco in the evenings. My point is – everything you could possibly need on vacation is there. And what is the best thing about it?

Why Running an ONLINE Business is so Utterly Different Than Running an OFFLINE One

online-vs-offlineShush! This is the kind of knowledge many marketers and online gurus don’t want you to know. Or maybe they do, but they don’t know how to say it out loud… Anyways.

Let me tell you what the main problem is. It happens when someone wants to start an online business having only the experience from running an offline one, and trusting this experience too much.

If you’ve been running an offline business you find opening an online one almost too easy. Here’s what you might think: “I don’t have to hire people, I don’t need to pay rent, I don’t need a nice mall placement, I don’t need to clean the place up, I can be doing this out of my bedroom in my underwear, and at the same time I can sell to millions of people around the world? Sounds easy, like finding a hooker in a red light district!” So you hire a design company, get a website built, launch the business and wait. But. Nothing happens.
